Guitar tabs and resources

  • songsterr.com a great tab and video site. Note: when viewing a tab, if you click the "edit" link you'll be able to download the Guitar Pro tab file;
  • Go PlayAlong Tablature Player: the free version lets you open any of the popular tab formats downloaded from the internet (support for all Power Tab and Guitar Pro formats). The free version lets you open/play/convert to PDF.
  • BestPractice or Transcribe! are specialized music players that let you play normal mp3 in karaoke mode (makes the instrumental clear), lets you change pitch and change the tempo without distorting the sound.
  • Ultimate-Guitar.com: a great source for tabs (either text or Guitar Pro/Tab Pro files);
  • TabsBy.Net: similar to songsterr.com but with a uglyer interface, also lets you download gp3 files;
  • mySongBook: is a library of music scores written by professional musicians. What you will find in it are new, previously unreleased arrangements for stringed instruments (guitar, ukulele, bass, and banjo), as well as full scores that include the complete transcriptions of every track in the original pieces;
  • Many Guitar Magazines periodically publish tabs on their issues, so check this index of most Guitar Magazine tabs since the late 80s;
  • Justinguitar.com has a lot of online donation free lessons. A great site to learn. Check the guitar lessons index.

    Some nice stuff from the site:
    BL-013 • Blues Lead Guitar #3 - Five Licks;
    Blues licks in action;
    Licks further up the neck;
  • Scotty West Guitar Course - "Absolutely Understand Guitar": This course will not teach you how to play guitar per se but more :P. It's all about music theory. Scotty likes to refer to the guitar as a "dumb machine", analogous to a typewriter. One has to understand the language(music, with guitar) to properly use either machine. Scotty is an excellent teacher and I think that just about any guitarist can benefit from his course. The Course is divided in many lessons having 7 chapters each. Scotty posted some of the initial DVD lessons on youtube so check it out.
  • LickByNeck: a great source of tabs with videos and free software. No need to install any software on your machine, each song has its on exec file with TAB display, SLOW down and STEP through features and many other. At the mo the site lacks a search tool but you can use google just for that: e.g. searching with google for "LickByNeck piano man" will give you a link to this page where you can find the tab/software/video for Billy Joel's' Piano Man song.

    Or you can browse the site's content and search for something you like;
  • Blues
    Blues Lead Guitar Series: this series on justinguitar.com will try and show you the basic skills and licks to enable you to play some blues lead guitar;

    The famous 12 Bar Blues: its probably the most used blues chord sequence, usually with the same progression but has some variations that are quite common;
